While still in his early twenties, Allen Tager was one of the 9 leaders in the largest artistic avant-garde movement in the long history of the former Soviet Union. In St. Petersburg (The Cultural Capital of Russia), this group of 300 artists gave regular art exhibitions of "new" art five years prior to the rise of Mikhail Gorbachev. As history notes, Mr. Gorbachev instigated the global shift of the totalitarian Russian regime to the new Russian Democracy. It is commonly believed that this "avant-guarde movement" in St. Petersburg and these group of artists which risked their lives giving these art exhibitions created a foundation for change in the cultural and social climate of the country.

Mr. Tager is internationally recognized for his successful and unique approach to art studies, as well as his ability to elicit remarkable levels of creativity from his students. His students from Europe and USA have repeatedly been recognized for top honors in international-level art competitions.

Mr. Tager’s method was developed during his career as a modern artist in Russia, where, through working with fellow artists and students, he uncovered a strong demand to inspire promising young artists with his visionary philosophy, style, and approach to art education. Honoring prestigious European traditions and fine art academies, his classes and workshops offer an incredible opportunity for authentic artistic development.

Mr. Tager believes that all art and creativity is connected deeply to life. Therefore, to nurture the full dimension and potential of the individual, classes, workshops and retreats are offered on an ongoing basis in a diverse menu of curriculum and subjects including: classes, conferences, discussion groups, labs and seminars. The program provides a dynamic creative environment of exploration, learning, and support.

In 1994 Allen Tager was awarded The U.N.E.S.C.O. diploma (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) for excelling in the areas of education. Mr. Tager is Professor of Art and Art History at The International Academy of Design and Technology, Las Vegas, USA.

American educators about the Allen Tager teaching approach

What I witnessed during his presentation at the INSEA World Congress (International Society for Education Through Art) were extraordinary works of art by children whom he has taught over the years. Allen Tager has tremendous passion for art and art education. He has implemented his sequential art teaching strategies with great success both in Eastern and Western Europe.

Allen Tager has a unique artistic approach to teaching art to children which has been recognized internationally for his ability to elicit a remarkable level of creativity from his students. The work of Allen Tager's students is so remarkable that he was given an entire room during the INSEA World Congress to exhibit them. The art works were outstanding. There is no USA child art works that can compare in overall quality to his examples.

I appreciated your outstanding exhibition.

I had the great pleasure to meet Allen Tager at the 1993 NAEA (National Art Education Association) National Convention in Chicago. I spent hours viewing examples of Allen Tager student's art work and discussing concepts and motivation for them. To say the least, I was most impressed. All aspects of the works demanded my attention. In addition, the concepts and images were created with such a personal depth of thought and perception that the works were simply overpowering. Strong, powerful images, but yet so beautiful and so sensitive. The works reflect outstanding teaching on the part of Allen Tager. Rarely have I witnessed a teacher who can guide students so gently and extract so much creative expression from them. Allen is a rare find and certainly has tremendous contributions to make in the arts education profession.

These paintings and collages were the most extraordinary work by children I had ever seen. Soon we brought in numerous teachers to see this work. None of the teachers present said they had seen such strong work.

Mr. Tager has a gift for playfully drawing from the child artworks that reveal the child's inner thoughts and motives — works that show the child's unique responses to the self in relationship to the everyday world and the realm of the spiritual. The artworks Mr. Tager's students create are exquisitely designed and show a high degree of sensitivity to aesthetic form. I also hope that he will find an institution that will be willing to house his extraordinary collection of student's artworks. These works need to be preserved and exhibited so that the public can see and understand the creative achievements of young students.
